Can rice be grown successfully without continuous flooding?

In an MNG field trial in Jordan, an Egyptian rice variety progressed successfully to panicle development without permanent standing water.

The programme integrates the three pillars of the MNG Soil · Water · Plant system:

  • MNG Soil Enhancer — supporting the root-zone environment
  • AquaSave — helping regulate soil moisture between irrigation events
  • Targeted MNG foliar nutrition — supporting the crop according to its development stage

Field observations to date show vigorous crop development, strong tillering and well-developed panicles.

The MNG treatment was managed through our mineral-based nutrition and water-efficiency programme, without a conventional chemical fertiliser or pesticide programme in the MNG treatment.

The most important observation at this stage is clear:

Under the specific conditions of this Jordan field trial, an Egyptian rice variety reached panicle development without continuous flooding and with substantially reduced irrigation.

This is particularly relevant for rice production systems in regions where water availability is increasingly critical.

These are still field-stage results.

Final harvest data — including yield, grain quality, total irrigation volume, water-use efficiency and economic performance — are required before conclusions can be made about the complete production outcome.
